SourcesBearruig: MacFarlane’s Gaelic Dictionary
Abaruig: Dwelly
Bearaig: Saoghal Bana-mharaiche

Dwelly’s form comes from the belief, possibly coming from Beveridge, that Berwick was in origin *aber-uig, as if ‘the confluence of the bay’ which is entirely fanciful. A trace of this is seen in the older spelling Bearuig. The proposed form is established.
